Avoiding the sun is difficult, especially if you’re an outdoorsy person, so incorporating SPF into your daily skin care routine is important.

If you’ve ever admired Nicole Kidman’s porcelain skin, you may already know that her advice to achieve such perfection is sun protection. "I reapply all the time. I was just shooting outside last week. It was almost 100 degrees in NYC. I was out in the sun all day from beginning to end. I reapplied SPF 100-plus, which is crazy, but I didn’t get burnt once," says the Aussie actress.

The active ingredient, Zinc Oxide, has been widely used in sunscreens for many years. It is unfortunately the culprit for leaving our skin feeling heavy and sticky after applying (sometimes even leaving a white hue to our skin).

Luckily with ever evolving technology, this is no longer the case. Making your SPF application a daily ritual will guard your skin from premature ageing, hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone, and of course, skin cancer.

There are multiple options when it comes to adding SPF to your routine. My personal favourite is using a CC cream with SPF like Aspect Sun CC Cream SPF 50+. It’s my daily go-to and great for when you don’t want or need makeup on. It gives your skin a great finish with bonus protection. There are also foundations that contain SPF for those of us who wear makeup on the daily.

If you don’t wear makeup and generally opt for a no fuss regimen, you can simply add a face SPF to your morning schedule like the Anesi Lab Institute Luminosity SPF 50+. Getting into the habit, applying once you have brushed your teeth or done your hair, will ensure your skin is shielded from the harmful rays.

Don’t forget to apply to areas of your body that are exposed throughout the day. Your drivers arm, for example, or if you happen to be wearing an open back top or dress.

Overcast days are commonly deceptive, with their ability to burn you without the sun being present as up to 80% of the sun’s rays are still being absorbed by your skin. Try an environmentally-friendly sunblock like the We Are Feel Good Inc. Signature Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50+.

So, when you’re getting ready tomorrow, check if your moisturiser contains SPF and if not apply sunscreen before you leave the house.
