Style Easy: How to Achieve Silky Smooth Straight Hair
by: Salon StyleGet Exclusive DEALS TO YOUR INBOX
For anyone who has ever watched those TV commercials growing up with flat hair, having silky smooth and straight hair has always been the goal. In the years since I’ve been hounded by these commercials, the straight-haired girls on our team have been dying to get this look down-packed!
The silky smooth and frizz-free straight hairstyles have always been on-trend, and it’s perfect for any occasion. It’s a timeless look that hairstylists have always adored. After months of figuring out the right process for this look, here are my steps to achieve it.
Here’s what we did to achieve the much-coveted look:
Step 1: The wash
This look starts with washing your hair—straight up! You will want to use a luminous shampoo and conditioner, something that will make your hair already shine. We recommend the Davines MINU Illuminating Shampoo and Conditioner, but ultimately, it's whatever works best on your hair.
Step 2: The dry time
The next step is knowing how to dry hair without the hassle. You're going to want to go in and towel dry your hair for a solid 1-2 minutes. After that, use a comb and add a defined part in the centre or sides of your head. Try to get your parting as straight as possible, this will help with the overall look of your hairstyle and make it easier for styling.
Of course, before turning on the heat, it’s important to apply a heat protectant like Paul Mitchell Clean Beauty Heat Styling Spray before drying your hair. When drying your hair, do it as you usually would. Once the hair is almost completely dry, you're going to want to bring your hairdryer vertical (just above your pattern) and dry any flyaways down into the rest of your hair.
Step 3: The Straightener
If there’s anything our team ever raves about is our all-time favourite, the ghd Original Styler. It makes hair feel soft and smooth once it has been straightened. However, you can go in with any straightener of preference and split your hair up into sections before straightening.
Step 4: Oil it up
If anyone asks, a majority of us love this step! Go in with a treatment oil of your choice and rub it all over the ends of your hair and throughout the hair from the ear down. For us we used the Davines Oi Oil for that shiny, hydrated, and healthy glow.
Try to avoid using it towards the roots as this will make your hair look greasy. If you have some flyaways at the end of this process don't panic! Use a light to medium hold hairspray and spray them down while holding them in place for 30 seconds after spraying. This should make your hair look complete and tidy.
