Happy International Women’s Day!

This is an important day for humanity to recognise global progress on the ever-pressing issues of gender equality. Women’s rights are human rights! Beginning in 1908 with 15,000 righteously riotous women on the streets of New York fighting for better working conditions and the right to vote, the day was adopted in 1975 by the United Nations and now, March 8 is recognised and celebrated annually across the globe.

The theme for the 2023 International Women’s Day is DIGITALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality, in recognition of the global inequality online.

Whether it’s the number of women journalists that have suffered online violence at work (73%), the number of women that make up AI jobs (just 22%), or the fact that 44% of AI is literally programmed to demonstrate gender inequality, there’s a long way to go online to make the digital age and the digital space a fair and safe space for women.

On the lighter side, it’s also an opportunity for us to celebrate the sisterhood, and all the things that make us women! Feminist and activist Maya Angelou once said;

 “Each of us has that right, that possibility, to invent ourselves daily. If a person does not invent herself, she will be invented. So, to be bodacious enough to invent ourselves is wise.”

Stand up tall and shine your light! As mothers and sisters, daughters and friends, take this opportunity to lean into your feminism. A strong sense of style certainly doesn’t make you less powerful.
