Skin Brightening

There’s been a lot of talk over the years about skincare products that brighten the skin but what exactly does this mean?

Brightening products generally work by either blocking the production of pigment or helping to lift pigmentation out of the skin.

Skin brighteners are used by people for three main reasons.  Firstly, people who suffer from inflammation of the skin caused by an irritation or injury, such as acne or bumps.  This causes cells to release pigment and stain the skin.

Secondly, people who have develop dark spots which are caused by exposure to the sun.  The radiation from the sun causes darkening, leaving sun spots or freckles.  Dark spots can also be caused by air pollution or hormones, which increases the production of melanin, leading to pigmentation in the skin.

Thirdly, by anyone who is interested in a product that will help brighten their complexion.

There are a variety of products that can be used in a brightening regime.  Creams such as Intraceuticals Opulence Moisture Brightening Cream and Thalgo Brightening Cream are very good for those with normal to dry skin. Creams can also be applied over a fluid or serum for a stronger effect.

For oily skin, a fluid is generally better as they are not too heavy on the skin such as Thalgo Brightening Fluid. However, a cream can be used in the evenings if a richer, thicker texture is required.

Serums are also good for any skin type and can be layered under a cream or fluid.  We suggest Thalgo Clarifying Water Essence and asap radiance serum

Other serums such as Dermalogica Biolumin-C Serum and asap super B complex are also great serums that can be used to assist with skin brightening while also helping with other skin issues at the same time.

Using an exfoliation product is always important in any brightening regime as this will help buff away dead skin cells.

Lastly, with any brightening regime the most important thing to remember is to regularly apply a sunscreen otherwise you will counteract the results you are trying.
