Acne Issues? Introducing Dermalogica Clear Start

Common skin issues, such as acne, are troublesome at any age but can be especially worrisome for those in their teens and early 20’s. It can shatter confidence, cause lifelong scarring and social anxiety, because who wants to go out with their friends when they’ve got a red, inflamed, irritated face. If you’ve been blessed with beautiful, pimple free skin, it may be difficult to comprehend both the physical and mental pain of acne, so severe at times that people choose extreme medications to combat it.

Everyone’s skin is different and therefore require different treatments to eliminate a breakout of acne. It’s important for us to understand the cause of the breakouts in order to address the issue the right way.

What causes Acne?

The predominant cause of acne is buildup of dead skin cells, excess oil (sebum) and bacteria. When these combine and block the follicle, a type of plug is formed, trapping the bacteria, which then multiplies and leads to a breakout. Those with a genetic predisposition to acne, can shed their dead skin cells up to four times faster than the average person. If these dead skin cells remain on the surface of the skin, they can cause low grade acne and progress further to high grade acne if not treated.

Other factors to consider when addressing acne include:

Age – younger people are more likely to have oilier skin and be going through hormonal changes

Stress – not only mental stress but also physical stress’s such as dehydration and diet can affect the skin by stimulating more oil production

Lifestyle – Not having an effective skin care routine and eliminating build up on the skin, creating further build up with makeup and hair care and also types of clothing and excess sweat can be contributing factors to breakouts.

Treating Acne

There are varying degrees of acne from low to high grade and treatment will need to be modified from person to person. While we strongly encourage making a good skin care routine a priority, some people may still need to seek medical advice.

Everyone has a delicate balance of ‘good’ and ‘bad’ bacteria on their skin. This balance creates a microbiome system with the good bacteria helping maintain healthy skin. So, while we might be inclined to douse our face with anti-bacterial products, this will also eliminate the good bacteria and our skins own natural defences against breakouts.

Dermalogica Clear Start is versatile range designed to target breakout prone skin. The products are gentle yet effective, with potent ingredients that target the acne, while soothing botanicals eliminate inflammation and redness. Clear start is straightforward to use, avoiding any lengthy routines, while each product has multi benefits in order to deliver quick results.
