Dry shampoo works miracles, right?
While it’s a dream product for so many, knowing how to use it can make all the difference. Here, our expert Jess’ top tips for getting your Dry Shampoo to work it’s hardest for you!
Timing is key
Don’t wait until you’re a grease ball to pick up your dry shampoo. Start using it the day after you have shampooed your hair. Apply a little each day rather than using half a can on day 5!
How much to use
Start with small, light sprays through the root section. If you’re prone to oily hair, you can always spray a little more if needed but try and avoid going too heavy or you’ll feel like you need to shampoo your dry shampoo.
Your Best Application
- Use your fingers to divide your hair into sections and apply a light spray at the roots throughout your whole head
- After applying wait 5 minutes to allow the product to work (I tie my hair back and do my makeup in this time)
- Once you’ve given the dry shampoo time to absorb your excess natural oils, you then need to brush it all through – I love using my Tangle Teezer for this!
When it’s time to restyle your hair avoid using your hairdryer too hot (lower the temperature button to the cooler option), this way you’re not melting all the hard work the dry shampoo has just done.
Use the right one for your hair
Best of the Best
Not all dry shampoos are the same – try experimenting to get the perfect one for your type of hair.
Here are a few of my favourites

DeLorenzo Absorb dry shampoo– Plant based ingredients with organic rosehip, bamboo and rice extracts
Juuce Dirty Deeds dry shampoo– Light powder-based formulation and vegan friendly
Evo Water Killer (brunette)– For all those brunettes out there that don’t want to look prematurely grey when overloading on dry shampoo! This special little can also holds colour pigments to blend in with your hair.
